Labor News

Laborers Local Nos. 172 & 472, Asphalt Laborers Local No. 172

In Bulletin 67-15, we distributed to Active Members the wage & fringe benefits package for the New Jersey Construction & General Laborers, Local Nos. 172 & 472, and Asphalt Laborers Local No. 172, effective September 1, 2015. The bulletin may be accessed in the members-only section at accnj.org.

Teamsters, Local Nos. 331 & 676 Agreements

In September we posted on the ACCNJ website the agreements for Teamsters, Local Nos. 331 & 676, effective May 1, 2015, through April 30, 2018. Active Members may view or download the agreements in the members-only section at accnj.org.

NYC Carpenters Expand Job Referral Timeframe

Effective September 1, the NYC Carpenters expanded the time period for contacting members on the OWL for job referrals from a three-hour window to a 12-hour period, 9 am to 9 pm. Thus OWL staff can call individuals on the OWL when requests come in from contractors, helping better serve signatory contractors by assuring requests for workers are fulfilled in a timely manner. For the official notice of the change from the Carpenters, please contact the Association office.  

Veterans' Day Holiday Provisions

In Bulletin 70-15, we emailed Active Members the provisions for the Veterans' Day holiday on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. The bulletin may be accessed in the members-only section at accnj.org.

Safety

ACCNJ Coffee Talk Addresses OSHA's Confined Space Standard

On October 16, ACCNJ will host Michael Corbett, OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist for Region II, as he discusses the Confined Space Standard (29CFR 1926.1207) that went into effect August 3. Enforcement is effective October 2, and Mike will review the new standard for construction and the contractor's responsibilities under the new rule. ACCNJ Hosts OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Course

In Bulletin 69-15, we invited members to send employees to our next ACCNJ-hosted OSHA 30-Hour course, which will span four consecutive Tuesdays - November 3, 10, 17 & 24. The course covers OSHA policies, procedures and standards as well as construction safety and health principles. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 30-Hour course completion card. ACCNJ Upcoming Events & Meetings

ACCNJ Program on ACA - October 8

In August we sent members an invitation to attend a program on the Affordable Care Act scheduled for October 8 at 12 Noon at the ACCNJ office in Edison. As a follow-up to the program we presented last summer, representatives from Susanin Widman & Brennan PC will provide an update on the Employer Shared Responsibility for Applicable Large Employers contributing to Multiemployer Welfare Plans. While there is no cost to attend, pre-registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Gala Dinner Dance - October 23 

Members are invited to the ACCNJ Gala Dinner Dance, scheduled for October 23 at The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset, honoring Michael Capelli. Join us for a cocktail reception at 6 pm followed by the program, dinner and dancing at 7. We thank our members and labor partners for your support of our Souvenir Journal and evening sponsorship opportunities. Please contact the Association office at 732.225.2265 if you did not receive your invitation.

Coffee Talks - October 16, November 5 & 18

• October 16 - Michael Corbett, OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist for Region II, will review OSHA's new standard for Confined Space in Construction. See further information in the Safety section of this e-newsletter. 

• November 5 - NJ DOT Commissioner Jamie Fox will discuss the status of the TTF, the agency's proposed Capital Program, projects "in the works" and community programs. 

• November  18 - NJ SDA CEO Charles McKenna visits us again, now having led SDA for nearly two years, to review the current capital portfolio and emergent projects.

BCA of Atlantic County Meeting with AC Mayor - October 14

BCA of Atlantic County will host a meeting with Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian as guest speaker. Mayor Guardian addressed the group last year and is invited back to provide an update of current action and planned activities to fuel the city forward during this tumultuous time. Mayor Guardian continues to put countless hours toward the reorganization and revitalization of Atlantic City. ACCNJ trustees and members are invited to attend. Rutgers Engineering to Honor ACCNJ Member - October 15

ACCNJ members are invited to attend as the Rutgers School of Engineering honors Richard Weeks, President and CEO of ACCNJ member Weeks Marine, at the school's annual Medal of Excellence Dinner on October 15 at the Livingston Student Center, Livingston Hall, 84 Joyce Kilmer Avenue, Piscataway. With more than 55 years of experience and a fleet of 1.6 million vehicles, ACCNJ member Enterprise Fleet Management shares knowledge and insight on managing and controlling fleet expenses at a Front Row Information Seminar on Wednesday, November 4 at the Association office.
