Labor News

Laborers Locals 472 and 172 - Settlement

Via email, we distributed to Active Members notice that the collective bargaining agreement between Heavy and General Construction Laborers' Locals 472 and 172 and ACCNJ and the Utility and Transportation Contractors Association, effective March 1, 2015, through February 28, 2018, may be accessed in the members-only section at accnj.org.

Government Affairs

House Passes Short-Term Transportation Spending Plan

As we announced in Bulletin 60-15, the House passed an $8 billion, three-month spending plan extension for federal transportation projects. Thursday afternoon, July 30, after we emailed the bulletin, the Senate passed the extension and the President signed it the following day in advance of the July 31 midnight deadline. Safety

OSHA Postpones Confined Space Rule Enforcement

We emailed members in July that OSHA had announced a 60-day temporary enforcement postponement of its Confined Space standard, which was scheduled to go into effect August 3. Members can read the OSHA news release and other information pertaining to the standard at www.osha.gov/confinedspaces/.

Heat Protection:  Webinar and Fact Sheet

In Bulletin 59-15, we announced a webinar open to all LIUNA signatory contractors hosted by the Laborers' Health and Safety Fund of North America, "Preventing Heat Stress and Skin Cancer:  Protecting LIUNA Members Year-Round," scheduled for August 4, 2-3 pm. While the registration deadline has passed, contact the Fund at www.lhsfna.org. For more information, access the bulletin in the members-only section at accnj.org.

Also this month, we emailed an OSHA Fact Sheet, "Protecting Workers from the Effects of Heat," reminding members of the dangers of heat illnesses and simple protective measures to keep workers safe during these hot, humid days. ACCNJ PAC Fishing Trip - August 13 - FINAL NOTICE

ACCNJ will host the annual ACCNJ PAC Fishing Trip on Thursday, August 13, on The Paramount out of Bogan's Basin in Brielle. Join us for breakfast at 7 am with a departure time of 7:30 am, returning at 3:30 pm. The package includes breakfast, lunch, beer/wine/soda, equipment and tackle. ACCNJ Golf Tournament & Dinner - October 5

Registration is open for the ACCNJ Golf Tournament & Dinner on October 5, 2015, at Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck. NEW THIS YEAR: In additional to traditional golf on the Championship Course, we are offering 9 holes of golf on the short course, limited to 9 foursomes. Gala Dinner Dance - October 23 

Invitations were mailed to members this month for the ACCNJ Gala Dinner Dance, scheduled for October 23 at The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset, honoring Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Executive Secretary Treasurer Michael Capelli. We encourage members to take advantage of Souvenir Journal advertising and evening sponsorship opportunities, and join us for a cocktail reception at 6 pm followed by the program, dinner and dancing at 7. ACCNJ 2016 Conference - Save the Date!
