Education

Lifelong learning is important in any industry, especially construction. Whether you are continuing your education to obtain a degree or certification, learning about new technology, or honing your skills to improve your abilities, ACCNJ has a variety of ways to support your efforts.

Upcoming Programs
Throughout the year, ACCNJ and our national association, AGC of America, offer a variety of educational programs. In person and virtual options are available. Please check out the ACCNJ Calendar of Events and AGC/A’s Website for current information.

Scholarships
The Association’s Scholarship Foundation offers two programs: higher-education scholarships to deserving high school students applying to college and the John F. Donohoe Scholarship to those currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program. The scholarship program has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, assisting dozens of students with their educational needs. Applications are available and deadline for submission is April 19, 2024. Awards will be presented to selected recipients in June.

Internships
ACCNJ administers the Construction Industry Advancement Program of New Jersey’s Student Summer Internship Program. The program provides opportunities for students to work with contractors engaged in heavy, highway, utility, and commercial construction. Prospective students complete an online application and must be current sophomores or juniors, provide supporting documentation and participate in an interview process with the CIAP Scholarship Committee. Students selected as eligible for the program must secure employment with a CIAP supporting association’s member company, work 12 weeks over the summer, and provide a write up of their experience. To assist in the process of getting an internship, CIAP requires selected students to attend a Career Fair in January. Students have an opportunity to interview with some of the top firms in the construction industry. The employment experience provides a mutual benefit to the student and the employer by developing practical job skills for construction education graduates. Students that successfully complete the internship are awarded a scholarship from CIAP.

Educational Liaison
ACCNJ maintains active educational liaisons with colleges and universities throughout the state by serving on Industry Advisory Boards and working with student chapters. Our educational partners at the collegiate level include New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Stevens Institute of Technology and Ocean County College. In addition to serving on advisory boards, ACCNJ staff facilitates guest speakers at student meetings, assists the schools with special projects, arranges job site tours, and supports the institutions’ participation in industry events and competitions.
