construction_careerThere are many paths to a fulfilling career in construction, as the industry relies on talented people with diverse skill sets. ACCNJ seeks to cultivate interest in the construction trades and design professions, as well as construction finance and management.  From any of these starting points, a seat in the C-Suite of a construction company may be reached.

Employment Opportunities

Teaching Tools

For the youngest future craftworkers, designers, contractors and construction managers, ACCNJ supports the Build Up! Program geared to elementary school children.  This innovative educational program relies on the generous sponsorship of ACCNJ members to place Build Up! Tool Kits in schools throughout the State to introduce fifth-grade students to the fundamentals of construction and stimulate a lifelong desire to build things. To assist secondary school students, ACCNJ places Construction Careers Kits with career counselors in high schools throughout the state. These kits include a resource manual containing relevant career data about the general construction trades, as well as brochures and posters that can be displayed within schools. A website,, serves as another vehicle to reach students interested in entering a construction trade.  This work is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor.

Career Days & Jobsite Tours

Seeing a career “live and in person” is the best way to understand it, and construction is no exception. That is why ACCNJ works to provide jobsite and facility tours that allow students and educators to gain a better understanding of the industry. We participate in, and often organize, construction industry career days that feature exhibits and demonstrations by members of the building trades in New Jersey, four-year colleges, and other organizations involved in the construction industry to increase awareness among educators, parents and young men and women that construction is a safe, creative and productive career that opens the door to personal growth, fulfillment and economic success.

Helmets to Hardhats

The New Jersey State Building & Construction Trades Council implements a statewide Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) program designed to help transitioning military personnel, National Guardsmen and Reservists find careers in the building and construction industry. ACCNJ serves as partner in the consortium charged with advising H2H on outreach and recruitment, assisting with developing program promotion strategies, assessing participant progress, and collectively addressing any participant retention problems or barriers to success. Apprenticeship Training

The general construction trades' Apprenticeship Training Programs provide all-inclusive training and education to individuals entering the construction trades. In addition, each trade offers a series of journeyworker upgrading classes. ACCNJ members serve as management trustees on these apprenticeship training funds. Association staff works with the apprenticeship training funds to develop curricula.
