Labor

Negotiating and interpreting union contracts for decades uniquely positions ACCNJ as the premier construction organization in New Jersey, with labor relations as its trademark. The Association's labor relations services are comprehensive, ranging from furnishing accurate wage data and current collective bargaining agreements, to ensuring contracts are fairly interpreted. ACCNJ works with each of our labor partners to build and strengthen those partnerships for the benefit of all. As a result, private and public owners continue to recognize that union contractors bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and skilled craftworkers to each job.

Bargaining Agent/Contract Interpretation

ACCNJ negotiates agreements with more than a dozen local, statewide, and regional labor unions, including the Bricklayers, Carpenters, Dockbuilders, Ironworkers, Laborers, and Operating Engineers. Members routinely engage the Association to represent them in collective bargaining by assigning their bargaining rights to ACCNJ. Our prime focus is keeping union contractors competitive.

Trusted Information Source

Members have come to rely on ACCNJ for problem solving. When faced with unfamiliar contract provisions or unanticipated jobsite circumstances arise, ACCNJ helps members safely navigate the contract.

In addition to maintaining the Collective Bargaining Agreements for the trades with whom ACCNJ negotiates, the Association produces a Labor Information Reference Binder available to members that employ trade labor and assign bargaining rights to the Association. This reference book of valuable labor information includes current Wage and Fringe Benefit schedules; a directory of Labor Business Representatives; a list of Contract Expiration Dates; Contract Summaries that include language from the Collective Bargaining Agreements on the most-often referred to work rules and contract provisions; and a directory of Fringe Benefit Fund Trustees, Administrators and Fund Professionals.

Project Labor Agreements

Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) can create market opportunities for reputable contractors and are a valuable tool for owners. ACCNJ tracks PLA initiatives and assists with developing standardized, competitive agreements. PLAs create a level playing field for both union and non-union contractors and ensure craftworkers are paid a living wage and protected by State Labor Laws.

Labor/Management Cooperatives

Labor/Management Cooperatives preserve, identify and expand business and employment opportunities for signatory union contractors and the craftworkers they employ. ACCNJ works closely with and supports the following:

Industry Advancement Trust

ACCNJ Industry Advancement Trust works to improve the safety and efficiency of union construction in New Jersey.  Activities funded by the Trust showcase and promote the utilization of union-affiliated contractors and skilled union craftworkers to private owners, architects, engineers, developers, and publicly funded institutions and agencies.
