Operating Engineers, Local No. 825

2016 Negotiations

In 2016, ACCNJ will negotiate with the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, Dockbuilders Local No. 1556, New Jersey Building Laborers, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, and Teamsters Local No. 469 and Local No. 560, all of whose agreements expire on April 30, 2016. In addition, negotiations will be conducted with the Trenton Ironworkers, Local No. 68, and the Camden Ironworkers, Local No. 399, whose agreements expire on June 30, 2016. We will send out information the first week in January regarding your assignment of bargaining rights for the Carpenters, Dockbuilders, Building Laborers and Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers. Please take time to review those bulletins and complete the appropriate forms. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact the Association office.


Government Affairs

Congress Passes Federal Transportation Spending Bill

In Bulletin 94-15, we let members know the US House and Senate had passed the "Fixing America's Surface Transportaiton (FAST) Act," the first long-term federal transportation bill in more than 10 years. The President signed it into law on December 4. We followed up that announcement with Bulletin 97-15, detailing the year-by-year national spending figures in the Act along with other components important to the construction industry. December Membership Meeting

We were pleased to greet 140 members and guests at the Association's Membership Meeting on December 8 at Galloping Hills Golf Club in Kenilworth. The evening's events were highlighted by recognition of Mark Hall as outgoing Chair of the Board, approval of a new slate of officers and trustees for 2016, and a splendidly successful raffle of gift baskets to benefit the ACCNJ Scholarship Foundation. We extend our thanks and gratitude to the 23 members who donated raffle baskets and all those who purchased tickets.

Education and Workforce Development

Student Summer Program/Career Fair

As we told you last month, 126 students completed applications for the Student Summer Program, and 72 were invited to attend the Career Fair on Wednesday, January 6, at the Pines Manor, Edison. If you did not register for the Career Fair but would like to hire a student intern this summer, please contact Jill Schiff at as soon as possible.

NRCC Foreman Training Program

In Bulletin 100-15, we introduced to Active Members the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters' Foreman Training Program, an eight-hour course designed to provide professional education for our contractors' key employees so they may gain enhanced ability and confidence to take on the role of Foreman. Signatory Contractors were asked to provide the first class of participants for this pilot program, which will begin February 9 from 8 am to 4 pm at the Association offices in Edison. GPRO Series: Fundamentals of Building Green - January 15 

As we announced in Bulletin 91-15, ACCNJ will host the US Green Building's "Fundamentals of Building Green" certificate program on January 15. The four-hour course is a comprehensive approach to educating contractors and craftworkers by providing an experience focused on sustainability, green building, LEED and green work practices. Following the class, participants will break for lunch and then sit for the exam that leads to certification. ACCNJ 2016 Conference - Registration Now Open!

NJAFA Construction Forecast

In Bulletin 102-15, we sent members the report from the New Jersey Alliance for Action's 31st Annual Construction Forecast. The report contained the two-year public and private construction estimates totaling $39.4 billion, about $4 million less than last year's forecast of $39.8 billion. NJBIA New Good Neighbor Awards - Call for Nominations

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association invites nominations for the 56th Annual New Good Neighbor Awards competition, recognizing companies that have built or renovated a commercial facility or green community project. Winners will be selected by a panel of independent judges based on architectural merit, economic benefit and job creation, and community involvement. Deadline for nominations is January 22, 2016. 53rd Annual NJ Concrete Awards - Call for Nominations

The New Jersey Concrete and Aggregate Association and the New Jersey Chapter of the American Concrete Institute invite nominations for the 53rd Annual New Jersey Concrete Awards.
